Reaching Bali Island with Ferry Boats

Bali is a small island in Indonesia that is located between two other islands. They are Java and Lombok. Automatically, you can get the island from these two other islands using by boats. It is particularly if you just want to feel the sensation of the voyage and watch the blue ocean closer. So, how are the sea transportations from and to Bali from Java and Lombok? Here are the explanations.

Ketapang – Gilimanuk Route

The most famous route from Java to Bali and vice versa is Ketapang – Gilimanuk Route. The name of the route refers to the names of harbors in Java and Bali. Ketapang is a harbor that is located in Banyuwangi, East Java. The harbor is under the management of ASDP Indonesia Ferry. Every day, a hundred voyages from and to Bali are done via this harbor. For this situation, the harbor is considered one of the busiest harbors in Indonesia along with its neighbor, Gilimanuk. In the future, Ketapang will be integrated to the highway of Probolinggo-Banyuwangi. The highway is still in the process of establishment and it is predicted to be finished in 2021.

The approximate duration needed from Ketapang to Gilimanuk and vice versa is an hour. From Gilimanuk, the travelers can directly go to their destinations in Bali. Many tourism packages in both Java and Bali always include Ketapang – Gilimanuk route in their trips. The packages have been included sea transportation along with land transportation like buses or cars.

Padang Bai – Lembar Route

If you want to reach Bali from Lombok or vice versa through the sea route, the common route to choose is Padang Bai – Lembar. They are also the name of harbors in those islands in which Padang Bai is located in Bali while Lembar is in Lombok. The distance of the two harbors is 38 miles. Since it is farer than the route of Ketapang – Gilimanuk, the approximate time duration tends to be longer as well. You need to spend around 4-6 hours on the voyage.

Despite the longer time on the sea, the land transportation to go to Padang Bai also often becomes another problem to face by the tourists. The public transportation is quite rare and you need to rent a car or motorcycle. Then, the transportation device to use in the voyage is ferry boats. The boats are operated in 24 hours and each ferry will be departed once in an hour. Besides, the boat sizes are considered smaller than the same boats used in Ketapang – Gilimanuk voyage.
